David Rosenbloom - Portrait Paintings

Commissioned portraits, realistic or abstract

Two types of commissioned portraits are available from a submitted photograph:

Photo painting portraits incorprate the photograph as the foundation of the painting. They are created by digitally altering the photograph, printing it on canvas paper, affixing it to board or hardboard, and painting into the altered image. The resulting portrait bears a close relationship to the original image, and thus is substantially realistic. In some cases the original photo is apprehendible, in others it is not.
For large (30"x40") photo portraits, multiple pages of canvas paper are utilized, and seams may be apprehendible in the finished work.

Subjective portraits use the photograph as a reference for a subjective interpretation, but do not incorporate the photograph into the work; the painting is on blank board or hardboard. The resulting portrait may deviate substantially from the photograph, and may even be entirely abstract.
